SKY65981-11
5 GHz low-noise amplifier with 1.5 to 1.7 dB noise figure and 11 to 13 dB gain in a 1.5 x 1.5 mm QFN.
The SKY65981-11 is a Skyworks ultra-low-noise amplifier for 5 GHz IEEE 802.11ac and 802.11n wireless receivers, covering 4.9 to 5.9 GHz with a noise figure of about 1.5 to 1.7 dB and a gain of 11 to 13 dB. Placed at the front of a receive chain, the LNA amplifies the weak signal from the antenna while adding very little noise, which directly improves the sensitivity and range of the radio. The device operates from a single supply between 2.8 and 3.6 volts and comes in a tiny 6-pin, 1.5 by 1.5 millimetre QFN package, so it fits the dense receive path of a Wi-Fi radio without a board penalty. Because it is internally matched for the 5 GHz band, it can be dropped into a receiver with minimal external circuitry, and its low current draw suits battery-powered products. It is a natural companion to a 5 GHz front-end module or a discrete receive chain, and it pairs well with a low-loss switch and a BAW filter. Every device is factory-traceable and ships with an import declaration, a certificate of origin and RoHS documentation. BeiLuo holds this part in regional stock and our FAE team supports matching, grounding and stability checks.
FAE Professional Review
When a customer asks how to improve Wi-Fi receive range, this LNA is usually the answer. Its sub-2 dB noise figure at the front of the chain lifts sensitivity more cheaply than almost any other change, and the tiny package means it costs almost no board area. Keep the input trace as short as possible and provide a clean ground, because the noise figure is only realized if the layout is careful.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where should this LNA go in the receive chain?
Place it as the first active stage after the antenna and any switch, so its low noise figure sets the sensitivity of the whole chain.
Every stage after it contributes less noise because of its gain.
What supply and current does it need?
The device runs from a single supply between 2.8 and 3.6 volts and draws low current, which suits battery-powered and portable products.
Decouple the supply close to the device for best noise performance.
